A Gift from a Friend

My wonderful friend Stacy sent me an Amazon gift card for my very special day, and this is what I purchased. I really love books and was completely impressed with the devotion "David: 90 Days to a Heart Like His" by Beth Moore. I had no idea the book was going to look so eloquent. I started it a few days ago and have already been blessed.

David is one of my favorite characters in the Bible because he is described as a "man after God's on heart". He sinned big in our terms, killing another man for his wife but still sought to serve God. His psalms are so open and honest, showing me that I can come to God even when I'm mad at Him. He writes so much of God's mercy and understanding, strength and refuge, and He praises Him like no other in the Bible.

"The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?" Psalm 27:1

"Sing praise to the Lord, you saints of His, and give thanks for the remembrance at His holy name. For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for life; weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning." Psalm 30: 4-5

What wonderful promises that apply to all God's children!

I believe David really understood God's love. And as Beth writes in the book, David was a literal picture of the Christ yet to come. He was literally the son of "man." His father's name, Jesse, means "man," and Jesus referred to Himself as "the Son of man." David was also a shepherd. There are many examples where Jesus is referred to as our Shepherd.

This devotion is an excellent choice. I also bought "Really Bad Girls of the Bible" by Liz Curtis Higgs and "Freefall" by Kristen Heitzman.

Thank you, Stacy!!
