Do You Want to Know About Me?
Karen asked, "I know you have a passion for writing. Have you always loved writing? If not, how and when did it start?"
It's hard to say when my love of writing began. I didn't write anything outside of assignments for school, but a couple of teachers starting in middle school commented that I had a gift for writing, which sank fairly deep. I entered a "Just Say No" writing contest in the 8th grade and won for my school. I was thoroughly surprised. Writing had always come easily to me, but I didn't think anything of it. But, by high school I realized more of my desire to write when I joined the high school newspaper.
My newspaper teacher was very encouraging and inspiring. She saw a gift, which I was yet to see, and pushed me to write better and better. I later become the editor-n-chief (one of two I might add) my senior year, an accomplishment I'm proud of still today. I loved writing for the newspaper, but I didn't want to seek journalism as a career. My teacher was disappointed that I wasn't going to continue writing after high school. I did, however, discover my love of writing poetry that same year. I wrote to cope with my feelings of depression. Beyond poetry, I wasn't that interested in writing.
Through my early twenties I only wrote for school assignments in college besides poems ever so often when I had the inspiration. I married at 23 and wrote several love poems to my sweetheart husband. As our relationship continued we began to have problems and sought counseling. My counselors encouraged me to journal, not just poetry, and my love of writing deepened.
Then, I gave birth to our beautiful daughter, Scamp, almost 3 years ago. I started my blog with Scamp as my inspiration, and God revealed to me (again) the passion that had always been instilled in me. I hadn't realized my passion before or at least how deep it was. God had been preparing me all along and continues to today. I want to share my life struggles and how God has miraculously brought me through. I feel as though I am only beginning. I'm at the cusp. He opened the door for me (and another blogger) to start a book review blog entitled Teen Lit Review. I'm able to share my love of God through this ministry. But, He's still preparing in me a deeper message, and in what outlet it will be shared I'm not completely sure. I do believe, however, part of it will be in writing.

Running Low on Ideas
Don't get me wrong, I love blogging. But some days I don't have much to say. I love to post picture after picture of Scamp, and I'm sure you guys don't get too tired of that. But, every once in awhile I like to do something different. So, I need your help.

My mother found some more old pictures of my grandmother (my dad's mom), who passed away when he was a child. I leafed through the pictures without my mom telling me who they were of. I came across one picture in particular (the one with my grandmother and her BIL) and saw a shocking resemblance to myself! I had heard I looked like her but never imagined just how much! It may be harder for you to see the resemblance especially if you didn't know me as a child. One of my first posts has another picture of her when she was a little older.

Seven, Or Ten Things Meme
1. I eat everything plain. I dislike most condiments, especially if cold. I can stand heated BBQ sauce and Italian dressing on cooked meats, but if it's room temp or cold, no way. I eat all my sandwiches plain even excluding cheese on burgers. I order my salads with no dressing.
2. I was in band in middle school and high school and played the alto saxophone. I was decent but hated practicing. I even went to band camp all throughout high school. I loved marching band. We had to memorize all our music and steps out on the field. I still have my sax and don't think I could ever sell it.
3. I love puzzles: jigsaw puzzles and puzzle games. I used to get all my puzzles out as a small child and sit in the kitchen floor and work them. I would work jigsaw puzzles now, but I know Scamp would steal my pieces. The new puzzle game I love is Sudoku.
4. I am a registered dietitian. Many of you may already know, but I don't usually (or ever:) write about nutrition on my blog. I was interested in nutrition since my teenage years. I could tell you how many grams of fat were in the foods I ate off the top of my head, but I didn't realize how much I loved the field until I was a sophmore in college. I didn't even now nutrition was a medical field.
5. I'll steal a suggestion from Sonya from her Ten on Tuesday. She loves pink, but I hate the color. I refused to wear it as a child. It was the only color that specifically belonged to girls, so I refused to be pink and frilly. I have outgrown my loathing of the color somewhat. I do wear some dark shades of pink but still will not wear baby girl pink even though I do dress up my Baby Girl in lots of pink. She seems to enjoy it!! Hey, now purple isn't a girly color is it? Cause that's one of my favorites!
6. I was born with jet black hair. My mom has black hair, so she thought it would stay that way. But by the time I was two, my hair had turned sandy blonde. Every time I would get my hair cut short, it would turn brown. When I would grow it out, it would develop blonde streaks. Now, I just highlight it because it would be completely brown.
7. My sister and I gave our lives to Christ on the same night at a church revival in 1990. I was 11, and she was 14. I had actually felt convicted to go up to the front of the church to be saved during the morning service but didn't. I went home to pray about it, but it just didn't seem to be the right time. That night was the first night of revival, and I went forward. I knelt down on the bench in front of the pulpit and began to pray. As is our church's tradition, all the other believers went to the front of the church to pray with me. I lifted my head up to find that everyone was still praying. My mom was beside me and asked if I thought I was saved. I said, "I think so."
It seemed like being saved was supposed to be a huge surge of emotion, but for me being so young, it wasn't. God let me know though when everyone in the whole church began to sing and hug me.
My sister came up to the front after me to pray and continued to pray later on that night at home. I overheard her say to my mother that she had been convicted to go forward when she saw me go up. It was all in God's perfect timing. He used me to help my sister see that she needed Him as well even though I had no idea at the time. God may use us in other people's lives, and we may never know the extent of it. We never know who might be watching.
I would love to know more about everyone else. Leave me a comment.

Randomized Questions
1. Do you have a favorite hobby? If so, please share it with us. My favorite hobby right now would be blogging. I love to write, and I love pictures in general. I have been able to do both with my blog. My second favorite hobby is scrapbooking, but I haven't had as much time since Scamp was born and because I blog a lot!!
2. What is your favorite blog to visit and why?
This one is not fair because I have several blogs I love and read on a regular basis. But, if I have to pick one it would be Vader's mom because we're friends outside of the blogging world. I copied her and became a blogger, then she sent some of her blogging buddies over to my site to welcome me. I love reading about her life with Jeff and Vader. We've really been able to connect through email and blogging.
3. Who inspires you most and why?
There are several individuals that have inspired me over the years. I have actually already written about them at my other blog. Click here for my full explanation. In short, I have been inspired by David's life and his writings in the Bible. He has inspired my poetry and my being open and honest with God. Also my Sunday School teacher as a teenager, Margie, inspired me to be a better person through devotion and service for God. Judith, my mentor and friend now, has inspired me to always trust in God and seek his will by living her own life in this manner. And, my friend and cousin Jennifer, who has always been a great encourager and confidant throughout my life, has always inspired me to have hope in the things that God has promised me.
4. What is the most important character trait you wish to instill in your children?
Faithfullness. I hope that through my life I will be able to live a faithful life to God as He has always been faithful to me. We are instructed to have faith, even if it's as small as a mustard seed. God works in the lives of those who are faithful to Him and will fully bless us beyond what we could possibly imagine. We are also called to be faithful in marriage. Sometimes, marriage is extremely difficult, but with God's help and our willingness to continue to love each other, God can and will change our circunstances for the better.
5. What is the most inspiring book you've read to date?
The most inspiring book I've read besides the Bible of course, is "The Purpose Driven Life" by Rick Warren. I have read through it twice now and have been inspired to serve God in deeper ways both times. The book describes in detail the 5 purposes for our life here on earth. We were made to worship God, to fellowship with God and other believers, to learn discipleship so that we may become like Jesus, to serve God through ministry, and to evangelize or spread the Good News of Jesus Christ.
I know several of my blogging friends have already played along in one degree or another, but if you would like to be randomized by me, just let me know.

This song is for all you party-goers!! This is how we party around here! I've never claimed to be a good singer. I'm far from it by most people's standards, but by PS2's Karaoke Revolution Country edition's standards, I'm pretty dang awesome:) Bare with me, the song it a little long, but Scamp sure is cute helping me at the end!

TV-aholic
I'm addicted to movies as well. They are my favorite past time. I was walking through the video store with my cousin LeChelle last week and was able to tell her the ratings of all the movies she picked up, what the movies were about, and whether they were worth watching or not. She had barely heard of any of them.
It's been weighing on my mind since Scamp was born that I need to cut back or right out eliminate it. I don't want to teach her that TV can be your best friend. It has been mine for a long time. If I'm having a bad day, I watch it to leave my own reality. If I'm sad, I watch a love story to lift my mood. It's my distraction, my comfort, and my idol. Instead of focusing on my family, my friends, my own self, and God, I'm tuning in to someone else's family, friends and god whether real or not.
I've made it a goal to not watch TV during the day when I'm at home with Scamp. I won't let Scamp watch more than one children's video a week, so why do I let myself? I've been doing fairly well the last couple of weeks, but it's hard because it's what I've done for years! Without my shows, I'm able to accomplish more housework, more writing, and more quality time with my husband.
I don't want it to control my life anymore. I've slowly been cutting out shows from my line-up. I do have a new DVR, so I record the shows I like then watch them when no one else needs my time. Hopefully, I will be able to resist adding any new ones in for the new seasons.
I also have a tendency to watch shows with questionable content. TV now is not the TV of my youth. Bad language and racy scenes are the norm, and if a show has neither, their viewings are typically lower. That is what I believe to be true anyway. I'm a little bit better with movies, but I learned the hard way that there are certain images that will never leave my mind. For that reason, I've chosen not to watch rated R movies.
This is a huge struggle for me. I've become too accustomed to viewing things myself I would never allow Scamp to view. They have impacted my life in a negative way, so why do I continue to watch inappropriate shows? Because I want to and it's viewed as acceptable so no one will probably ever call me on it. Hopefully, I will allow God to change this area in my life. I'm hanging on to this one with all my might!

Blog Talkers

I saw this over at Stacy's site and decided to play along.
Do you consider yourself a high-maintenance, or a low- maintenance person? Why?
I am so high-maintenance. I just need certain things when I need them!! Here are a few exmaples:
I have to heat my feet in hot water in the sink before I go to bed because I can't sleep with cold feet. Yes, I sit on the vanity!
I have to wear earplugs to the movies. If I don't have any, we don't go to the movies!
I have to eat! I'm not the kind of person who can go for hours and hours without eating. I get very angry and nasty when my blood sugar is low, so don't get in the way of my snack!!
I can't just sleep anywhere. When, I was pregnant, I had to take my eggshell mattress on vacation even though we barely had room in the car. I also can't leave without my pillows!
I have a very low comfortable zone (body temperature). Beef complains about this one a lot. I have to continously turn the air conditioner/heat on and off, up and down to monitor the temperature in the car.
Just a few. I'm sure I can think of some more! What about you? Sign up at Blog Talkers by Write from Karen. She has a new question every week!

Death By Chocolate
I was sick last week with this awful hacking cough that would not go away!! Last Thursday, I thought my cough was about over, but apparently it wasn't. Beefcake bought me some really good chocolates with caramel centers for our anniversary, so I was enjoying one. I was on the last bite, and I got an awful tickle in my throat and started coughing. It was so bad I was gagging and gasping for air all the while thinking, "I hope I don't have to spit this last bite of chocolate out before I can quit coughing!" (Just think -- gag, gasp, savor the bite. Gag, gasp, savor the bite). Luckily I didn't lose one bit!! That's what you call death by chocolate (almost anyway)!!!

Who I Am
I don't want those fears to rule my life. I'm the person in my blog. But, if you ever met me in person, I would be introverted unless the person I'm meeting is more introverted than me. I've learned that I have to talk about my feelings, and I have to let others know me because I'm here for a reason (and so is everyone else). If we don't have close relationships than what do we have? I can use my blog to let others who normally wouldn't know me as well, know me for who I really am. This is important to me at this point in my life.
I want to be real with others and want them to be real with me. Life is too short. If I hurt your feelings tell me so that I can fix it. I hope to be the person who can always say I'm sorry and mean it when others need me to do so. I hope to always be forgiving. I hope to be the person God has intended me to be. I hope to never hide myself from my daughter or my husband. I hope to speak up when I need to defend myself or others. I hope you can see my love for you.

How Can God Love Me More Than I Love Scamp?
Today, I was thinking about how I love Scamp. It gives me joy to watch her playing and having fun. I'm excited to see her when she wakes up from her nap. I clap and pick her up and squeeze her. I can't give her enough hugs and kisses even when she's pulling away from me. I love her just the way she is, no strings attached.
What if God felt that way about me? I let myself feel that today. I imagined what it would be like if God was standing in the room with me. God clapped when I woke up this morning, and He couldn't wait to tell everyone that I was awake. He followed me around the house hugging me and kissing me. He was so excited to talk to me. He listened intently to every word I said. He told me that nothing about me was a mistake. He planned for me to be just the way I am even though I tried to argue.
You wouldn't believe the weight that was lifted off my chest. I don't have to prove anything to God. I don't have to work and work to show Him how good I am. He loves me so much that He even has the hairs on my head numbered (Matthew 10:30) and knows when one falls off.
I needed a little bit of healing today. God loves me and every believer in Him much more than I could ever imagine. I have to even relate His love to my own love that is far from perfect to be able to understand even a little. I don't know how many hairs are on Scamp's head:) I may not even know how to love her the way she needs me to, but I do know that God can if I believe (and she believes for herself).
I believe that God's love for me is perfect for today. That even when I make huge mistakes I can always come to Him. That I am loveable and acceptable. And that I need Him far more than I can realize. I need to be loved unconditionally. I think everyone does.

My Paternal Grandmother
if you can pick out a resemblance from this particular picture. One of the best stories about a connection I've had with her happened when I was about 8 or 9 years old. I was at a yardsale in a different city than the one I grew up in. An older lady kept looking at me saying I reminded her of someone. It dawned on her that I looked just like her childhood friend, my grandmother!!! What an awesome experience! I've often wandered how much alike we would have been. . .

My Purpose in Life
I want to stop living in fear, letting fear control my life. Hey, I’m always going to be afraid, but I don’t have to let it control me.
I asked God for forgiveness of my sins when I was 11 years old. I realized that I was a sinner, I did a lot of things that weren’t right, and I told God that I believed that His Son, Jesus, had died on the cross for my sins. Jesus was perfect. He didn’t deserve such pain and humiliation. He had tens of thousands of angels waiting to save Him from death on the cross, but He chose to die anyway.
After I prayed, I didn't have a huge overwhelming swell of emotion. I just felt like everything was ok, and that God had forgiven me. Because of what Jesus went through, I now have hope. I will never be alone. I can always tell God how I'm feeling even when I'm mad at Him for some reason. I know that my life has purpose, and that even though I have problems, God will always help me through them. I have hope that God will use me to help someone else with the same problems.
If you're reading this and have a personal relationship with God, please pray that I will have the courage to fulfill God's purpose for my life. If you don't have a personal relationship with God and want one, here's some Bible verses to tell you how:
"That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." Romans 10:9
The Bible says "...Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures; and that he was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures..." 1 Corinthians 15:3b-4
Jesus said, "And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to myself; that where I am, there you may be also." John 14:3
Jesus had prepared a place (Heaven/Eternity) for those who believe in Him.
