Rock Stars and Truth Tellers

Slowly, I am working on my list for the Fall Into Reading Challenge 2007. My first finished book was Dark Star: Confessions of a Rock Idol by Creston Mapes. The book reads like a memoir of Everett Lester, lead singer for a very famous rock band. He has been on a path of destruction since his childhood with an abusive father, and he plunges even deeper into darkness living as a drugged-out rock star. The book begins with Everett on trial for murder. He has recently come to faith and must prove himself innocent. It is classified as Christian fiction and a supernatural thriller but the supernatural aspects do not show themselves until later in the book. I bought it on recommendation from Stacy and did truly enjoy it. It was quite a unique story. The sequel is called Full Tilt (Rock Star Chronicles), which I purchased as well but haven't read yet.

My next book was The Truth Teller by Angela Hunt. This one is Christian Medical Science fiction (maybe I'm making this genre up)! It deals a lot with genetics and DNA. Lara Godfrey loses her husband but desparately wants to have his child after his death through the most up-to-date technology. But, she becomes entrapped in a web of lies as a ruthless villan uses her without her knowledge or consent to create what he believes to be a superhuman, aka her precious baby that Lara will stop at nothing to protect. The first half of the book was a bit slow but the second half was completely enrapturing, quick-paced and exciting.

Great reviews! I still have Angela Hunt on my "new authors" list and hope to get to one of hers soon. This one sounds different from what I thought she wrote :)

Happy Reading!!!
